Intro
This hands-on session will equip you with the entry-level skills needed to use Media Composer in a professional film and television environment. The course provides a strong foundation in one of the most widely used tools in TV and film, both in the UK and globally. Media Composer is the industry-standard editing suite, often paired with Nexis storage—a shared storage solution that facilitates seamless media and project sharing for multi-editor environments.
Who is this course for:
The training program is designed for editors familiar with other non-linear editing packages, new entrants who haven’t received guided support with Media Composer in a post-production setting, and editors with limited experience in shared storage environments who want an overview of collaborative project workflows.
This is an Entry Level session for anyone who is interested in starting their career in Post for TV & Film industry.
This is one of the first steps of the Stepping Stone training programme into the TV & Film industry.
Assumed Knowledge - A passion to work in the TV & Film industry, Basic IT literacy, basic knowledge of editing software
What we will be covering
In the training session we will be looking at the following:
- Overview of the interface and tools
- Starting a project and working in a shared storage environment
- A basic overview of Nexis workspace administration
- Basic edit techniques & Tools
- Organising footage, bins and clips
- Getting to grips with the sequence
- Refining the edit
- Working with audio
- Basic transitions
- Basic effects
- Output options and exports
- The “offline” and “online” process
Learning outcomes
Upon completing this course, you will have a solid understanding of Avid Media Composer and foundational skills essential for professional editing, providing a strong basis for further development. This foundational knowledge will allow you to confidently build upon your skills, advancing to more complex techniques and workflows as you progress in your editing career.
As a delegate on the course you will also be notified of any networking events run by ourselves or partners as well as having access to our fortnightly drop in session at Gorilla Academy.

The funding will support entry level and up-skilling training opportunities within post production in Wales with a percentage of the training being delivered through the medium of Welsh.
