BFI INVESTS £900,000 NATIONAL LOTTERY FUNDING OVER TWO YEARS TO CREATE A BFI SKILLS CLUSTER FOR WALES

Sgil Cymru, Creative Wales and Screen Alliance Wales (SAW) partner to launch the ‘One Stop Shop’, a BFI Skills Cluster for Wales supporting workforce development of the nation’s screen production sector

LONDON – Thursday 18 April 2024: The BFI is investing £900,000 in a BFI Skills Cluster in Wales, which will see Sgil Cymru, in close partnership with Creative Wales and Screen Alliance Wales (SAW), launch the new ‘One Stop Shop’ thanks to National Lottery good cause funding. It becomes one of seven BFI Skills Cluster across UK nations and regions which seek to work collaboratively with local industry, education, and training providers to develop clearer pathways to long-term employment in film and TV production.

The One Stop Shop will receive additional funding from Creative Wales and BBC Studios, and work as a collaborative partnership of training providers, further and higher educators, and industry, working together to provide clear, coherent and transparent pathways to enter or progress within the screen industry. It will focus on providing opportunities for all those currently under-represented in the sector, and in its initial two year phase will seek to benefit and engage with over 2000 workers.

The new service will include four key strands:

‘The One Stop Shop’ will include an online resource with a calendar of training and work experience opportunities, job postings and links to crew databases, making it much easier for people to access opportunities.

The Start of the Journey – will focus on entry level training, community and educational outreach, and an ‘Opportunities for All’ bursary fund.

Bridging the Gap – will work to bring further and higher education and industry closer together by providing coordinated work experience placements and a series of ‘Educating the Educators’ sessions.

Continuing the Journey – will provide further training and upskilling opportunities to those already working in the industry.

The One Stop Shop will be the place to visit when looking to forge or further a career in the screen sector. It will include bursaries to overcome barriers to entry, coordinated work experience placements, a full-time trained mentor on hand to provide advice to both new entrants and the existing workforce, and practical, newly imagined training schemes.

The programme will be strengthened by key delivery partners BBC Studios, NFTS Cymru, Ffilm Cymru Wales, Into Film, Culture Connect Wales, TAPE, Cardiff & Vale College, Coleg y Cymoedd; University of South Wales, Bangor University & Aberystwyth University who will lead the way with wider partners and ensure that One Stop Shop works for people in every region of Wales.

A team working on behalf of the skills cluster in Wales, will be employed to drive and deliver activity across the first two years to ensure a cohesive and impactful start for the cluster. Sue Jeffries, MD of Sgil Cymru, will be the overall lead for the project, with experienced Location and Production Manager, Lowri Thomas leading the team day to day.

This perfectly-timed collaboration with Sgil Cymru and Creative Wales comes as the world’s only Welsh-language soap Pobol y Cwm celebrates its landmark 50th anniversary in October.

"During the show’s golden anniversary year, this partnership will enable us to bring to life the first ever Pobol Academy; a wholesale training initiative which will secure the pipeline of Welsh-speaking production and editorial talent for the future of Pobol and the wider industry, while also creating upskill opportunities for a cohort of incredible creatives via the second series of our Welsh-language comedy Anfamol. The joint enterprise will also help create exciting new trainee roles on BBC Studios’ award-winning, primetime medical show Casualty which continues to entertain millions.”

The BFI Skills Clusters funding enables organisations to work collaboratively with local industry, education and training providers to develop clearer pathways to long-term employment in film and TV production. The Skills Clusters see locally-based partners identifying skills shortages and gaps and coordinate skills and training opportunities for below-the-line production crew in their area. Through the Clusters, the BFI aims to build local skills bases by helping people across the UK, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, find viable routes into the screen industry and effective career development support.

LLUNDAIN – Dydd Iau 18 Ebrill 2024: Mae’r BFI yn buddsoddi £900,000 mewn Clwstwr Sgiliau BFI yng Nghymru, a fydd yn gweld Sgil Cymru, mewn partneriaeth agos â Cymru Greadigol a Screen Alliance Wales (SAW), yn lansio’r ‘Siop Un Stop’ newydd, diolch i arian achosion da y Loteri Genedlaethol. Mae’n dod yn un o saith Clwstwr Sgiliau BFI ar draws gwledydd a rhanbarthau’r DU sy’n ceisio gweithio ar y cyd â diwydiant lleol, addysg a darparwyr hyfforddiant i ddatblygu llwybrau cliriach at gyflogaeth hirdymor ym maes cynhyrchu ffilm a theledu.

Bydd y Siop Un Stop yn derbyn cyllid ychwanegol gan Cymru Greadigol a BBC Studios, ac yn gweithio fel partneriaeth gydweithredol o ddarparwyr hyfforddiant, addysgwyr pellach ac uwch, a diwydiant, gan weithio gyda’i gilydd i ddarparu llwybrau clir, cydlynol a thryloyw i fynd i mewn neu i symud ymlaen o fewn y diwydiant sgrin. Bydd yn canolbwyntio ar ddarparu cyfleoedd i bawb sy’n cael eu tangynrychioli yn y sector ar hyn o bryd, ac yn ei gyfnod cychwynnol o ddwy flynedd bydd yn ceisio elwa ac ymgysylltu â dros 2000 o weithwyr.

Bydd y gwasanaeth newydd yn cynnwys pedwar llinyn allweddol:

Bydd ‘Y Siop Un Stop’ yn cynnwys adnodd ar-lein gyda chalendr o gyfleoedd hyfforddi a phrofiad gwaith, postiadau swyddi a dolenni i gronfeydd data criwiau, gan ei gwneud yn llawer haws i bobl gael mynediad at gyfleoedd.

Dechrau’r Daith – bydd yn canolbwyntio ar hyfforddiant lefel mynediad, allgymorth cymunedol ac addysgol, a chronfa fwrsariaeth ‘Cyfleoedd i Bawb’.

Pontio’r Bwlch – yn gweithio i ddod ag addysg bellach ac uwch a diwydiant yn nes at ei gilydd drwy ddarparu lleoliadau profiad gwaith cydgysylltiedig a chyfres o sesiynau ‘Addysgu’r Addysgwyr’.

Parhau â'r Siwrnai - bydd yn darparu cyfleoedd hyfforddi ac uwchsgilio pellach i'r rhai sydd eisoes yn gweithio yn y diwydiant.

Y Siop Un Stop fydd y lle i ymweld ag ef wrth geisio creu gyrfa yn y sector sgrin neu ei datblygu. Bydd yn cynnwys bwrsariaethau i oresgyn rhwystrau rhag mynediad, lleoliadau profiad gwaith cydgysylltiedig, mentor hyfforddedig llawn amser wrth law i roi cyngor i newydd-ddyfodiaid a'r gweithlu presennol, a chynlluniau hyfforddi ymarferol, newydd eu dychmygu.

Bydd y rhaglen yn cael ei chryfhau gan bartneriaid cyflawni allweddol BBC Studios, NFTS Cymru, Ffilm Cymru Wales, Into Film, Culture Connect Wales, TAPE, Coleg Caerdydd a’r Fro, Coleg y Cymoedd; Prifysgol De Cymru, Prifysgol Bangor a Phrifysgol Aberystwyth a fydd yn arwain y ffordd gyda phartneriaid ehangach ac yn sicrhau bod Siop Un Stop yn gweithio i bobl ym mhob rhanbarth o Gymru.

Bydd tîm sy’n gweithio ar ran y clwstwr sgiliau yng Nghymru, yn cael ei gyflogi i ysgogi a chyflwyno gweithgarwch dros y ddwy flynedd gyntaf er mwyn sicrhau dechrau cydlynol ac effeithiol i’r clwstwr. Sue Jeffries, Rheolwr Gyfarwyddwr Sgil Cymru, fydd yr arweinydd cyffredinol ar gyfer y prosiect, gyda’r Rheolwr Lleoliad a Chynhyrchu profiadol, Lowri Thomas yn arwain y tîm o ddydd i ddydd.

Dywedodd Sara Whybrew, Cyfarwyddwr Sgiliau a Datblygu Gweithlu’r BFI: “Mae Cymru’n genedl allweddol i’r sector sgrin yn y DU, yn gartref i gynyrchiadau ar raddfa fawr sy’n cael eu dosbarthu ar draws y byd, yn ogystal â chynnwys yn yr iaith Gymraeg. Bydd y bartneriaeth sydd ar waith, dan arweiniad Sgil Cymru, yn adeiladu ar waith hanfodol sydd wedi’i ddechrau a gobeithiwn y bydd y Clwstwr Sgiliau yn darparu sylfaen gref ar gyfer adeiladu ymhellach ar hyfforddiant sy'n newid y gêm, a chyfleoedd dysgu seiliedig ar waith ar gyfer talent amrywiol a chynrychioliadol ar draws y genedl. Mae’n bleser mawr gennyf groesawu Sgil Cymru, Screen Alliance Wales, Cymru Greadigol, a’u partneriaid di-ri yn y diwydiant i bortffolio Clwstwr Sgiliau’r BFI, ac ni allaf aros i gwrdd â rhai o’r doniau newydd y byddant yn eu cefnogi i ddod i mewn, a dod ymlaen, mewn gyrfa ym maes cynhyrchu sgrin.”

Dywedodd Sue Jeffries, Rheolwr Gyfarwyddwr Sgil Cymru: “Gyda balchder mae Sgil Cymru yn cymryd y rôl arweiniol yn y bartneriaeth hon. Dywedodd Gweinidog Diwydiannau Creadigol Llywodraeth Cymru, Hannah Blythyn: “Mae ein Diwydiannau Creadigol yn parhau i fod yn stori lwyddiant gwirioneddol i Gymru. Ym maes cynhyrchu sgrin yn unig, mae economi Cymru yn gweld elw o unarddeg gwaith yn fwy ar bob punt a gaiff ei gwario.

“Mae conglfaen ein gwaith i ddatblygu a thyfu ein diwydiannau creadigol yn dibynnu ar inni feithrin a harneisio’n llwyddiannus yr ystod eang o dalent greadigol sydd gennym yma yng Nghymru. Dywedodd Allison Dowzell, MD Screen Alliance Wales: “Mae Screen Alliance Wales wrth ein bodd i ymuno â Sgil Cymru a Chymru Greadigol yn y prosiect hollbwysig hwn i Gymru, wrth i ni gychwyn ar daith tuag at ddiwydiant sgrin fwy cynhwysol a chynrychioliadol. Mae 'Stop Un Siop’ yn gyfle gwych, gan arwain newydd-ddyfodiaid a gweithwyr proffesiynol profiadol tuag at yrfaoedd boddhaus ym myd deinamig y sgrin. Ar y cyd â’n partneriaid, rydym wedi ymrwymo i dorri rhwystrau, meithrin talent, a llunio gweithlu sy’n adlewyrchu’r amrywiaeth o’n cymunedau.”

Dywedodd Kris Green, Swyddog Gweithredol Hyfforddiant, BBC Studios Drama Productions: “Canolfan BBC Studios ym Mhorth y Rhath, Caerdydd yw cartref talent drama a sgrin yng Nghymru. Daw’r cydweithrediad hwn sydd wedi’i amseru’n berffaith gyda Sgil Cymru a Chymru Greadigol wrth i’r unig sebon cyfrwng Cymraeg yn y byd, Pobol y Cwm, ddathlu ei hanner canmlwyddiant ym mis Hydref.

“Yn ystod blwyddyn pen-blwydd euraidd y sioe, bydd y bartneriaeth hon yn ein galluogi i ddod â’r Academi Pobol gyntaf erioed yn fyw; menter hyfforddi gyfannol a fydd yn diogelu’r doniau cynhyrchu a golygyddol Cymraeg eu hiaith ar gyfer dyfodol Pobol a’r diwydiant ehangach, tra hefyd yn creu cyfleoedd uwchsgilio i garfan o bobl greadigol anhygoel trwy ail gyfres ein comedi Gymraeg Anfamol.
