Ysgol Pen y Bryn:

This term Film Skills have been creating an amazing adventure set in the Star Wars universe, as our Key Stage 3 learners take centre stage for their latest project. The learners have taken part in creating props and sets, along with acting in the exciting project.

Film Skills have also started their outreach programme, working with our first school Swiss Valley Primary school in Llanelli. The fantastic year 5 group have been learning all about film making, and have worked hard throughout the term to create their first original Film Skills project called 'The Mystery Box'.

The schools are collaborating on a joint launch that will be taking place on Thursday 11th July at a special private screening at the Odeon Cinema Swansea.

Real SFX:

Inspiring the Next Generation: Gatsby Project and Careers Events

As part of our ongoing commitment to inspire the next generation and in collaboration with the Gatsby Project and UK Technicians, we've had an incredibly busy few weeks. We recently participated in the Big Bang Fair at the NEC in Birmingham – our largest careers event to date, which saw over 40,000 school children attending over three days. Following this, we attended the Inspiring the Black Country careers event, where our team conducted live demonstrations and provided career advice within the world of SFX.

Next up, we have a very exciting event with SAW, which is another fantastic opportunity to engage with and inspire the next generation. More details on this will follow soon!

Growing Our KIT4CREW Inventory

Our KIT4CREW stock inventory continues to grow, and we encourage everyone to participate and support this initiative. Despite a slowdown in work, we’ve seen an increase in requests for items due to the cost of living crisis. Your support is crucial – whether through donations at one of our many KIT4CREW bins located at BBC Roathlock, Wolf Studios, Dragon Studios, SGIL Cymru, 4Wood, and the Bottleyard Studios in Bristol. If you don’t work at any of these sites, you can also donate at Real SFX HQ.

Or if you need support and would like to request items, please reach out to us at [email protected]. We’re here to help!

Commitment to Sustainability: Green Real SFX

Sustainability remains a high priority for us. We have recently partnered with Picture Zero to enhance our Green Real SFX initiative. We are constantly exploring innovative ways to become more environmentally friendly, including our involvement with Ecologi, integrated through our Xero accounting system, allows us to calculate our carbon footprint and emissions accurately; plus we have also begun the process of Carbon Mitigation.

Stay tuned for more updates on our green initiatives and how we are working towards a more sustainable future.

Cardiff Commitment:

Learners at St Joe's Primary School, Ysgol Glan Ceubal and Ysgol Glantaf's ASD Unit all created films with local film makers as part of an initiative between The Curriculum Team, youth Service and Unify Creative. All films were shown in celebration of the community and to draw out ideas from the local community on how they would like to represent their community. Buffoon Media and Into Film will work with the ASD Unit at Glantaf to create new resources on film-making in an ALN setting - allowing learners of all abilities a gateway into film-making.

Engaging the Community

The event saw over 200 local learners and community members visiting the exhibition, which served as both a celebration of the young people's work and an opportunity to hear from the community about what they would like the upcoming mural to represent. The feedback gathered during this consultation will be invaluable in shaping the final design of the mural.

About the Unify Gabalfa Interchange Project

The Unify Gabalfa Interchange Project aims to transform the Gabalfa Interchange underpass into a vibrant, safe space that fosters civic pride through art. The project engages local schools, residents, and stakeholders in a creative journey to explore, respond, and create, culminating in a mural that embodies the community spirit of Gabalfa.
