Trainee Tuesday - Becky

For this week’s #traineetuesday, we would like to introduce you to Becky.

Before working in the industry, Becky studied Theatre and Drama in University of South Wales whilst also working in a jewellery store. However, she had always been intrigued by the TV and Film Industry.

Becky saw an advert and applied to be an account trainee on His Dark Materials season 2 - not the career path she thought she’d go down, but saw it as an open door into the world of TV so made sure to jump at the chance! This opened her eyes up to all the different departments within the industry and the avenues that are available. Once she had this opportunity, Becky knew she wanted to be involved in the production side of things, which is where she is currently working. Becky now works as a SFX coordinator for Real SFX. He role entails Coordinating with TV shows to understand the SFX requirements needed and to deliver this to set. Explosions, wind, snow and rain are just some of the things that Real SFX bring!

“SAW has helped me by always being a support system. They were always checking in on me whilst I was at working on His Dark Materials and pointing me in the right direction with my next adventure. I’m very grateful for all the lovely SAW lot, they have really helped me”.

Becky’s advice for those looking to start a career in this path is to keep an eye on the SAW website! “They offer loads of opportunities for trainees and it’s for a wide range of departments”. Her other advice is to join Facebook pages that specifically cater to finding work within Film and TV. “I’ve managed to get two industry-based jobs whilst being in these Facebook groups, it’s a create source for connecting with people within the industry and discovering new jobs”.

A huge thank you to Becky for telling us about her story! We are so glad to see you do so well and progressing with your career in the industry. Stay tuned for our next #traineetuesday.
